Event description

Description

*** Due to high demand and multiple requests, there are now ADDITIONAL tickets available and we have now opened up the event for college and university students under the age of 25***

Spectrum would like to invite your school to attend the World's Largest International Mental Health Lesson.

Spectrum is a Berkshire wide community led group founded by a Young Person and made up of a core team of Reading University students driven to connect the world on World Mental Health Day and raise awareness of common mental health conditions, break stigma and educate students from Year 6 to university students on mental health. This is increasingly important because of the rise of young people suffering with mental/emotional distress with more students resulting in self-harm type behaviours as a means to cope. We are doing this in partnership with Brighter Berkshire; a community led mental health campaign. Spectrum is being supported by Bracknell Forest Public Health, 6 local councils , Reading FC, Senior NHS clinicians and other organisations. This event is open to schools, colleges and universities across Berkshire & wider.

The lesson will focus on

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Resilience
  • Self-harm
  • Eating Disorders
  • Male Mental Health
  • Suicide

With a focus on

  • Top tips for mental wellbeing
  • Coping strategies to manage stress and adverstities
  • Self-help
  • How to support someone with mental/emotional distress
  • How to ask for support

This will be a fun and interactive lesson delivered by specialist experts in the field to provide psychoeducation on the above topics and will feature a variety of celebrity speakers showcasing the importance of mental health and speaking out about mental health.

We will have schools in the following countries and more participating in the lesson to truly connect the world to talk about mental health and show that it is OK to talk about mental health to hundreds of young people.

  • Denmark
  • Barcelona
  • Malaysia
  • Hong kong

This lesson will be a record breaking event with the aim of Guinness World Record in attendence to officiate the event and we would like your school to come and join the lesson at Reading Town Hall so we can all collectively break the stigma against mental health together and show hundreds of young people that it is OKAY to talk about mental health and most importantly HOW to talk about mental health and support. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact Spectrum on the following email address: Spectrumwmhd17@gmail.com

Schools attending will receive a 'Certificate Of Participation' which will include being actively involved in helping to achieve the two World Record's. The certificate will also be a great supporting feature to show OFSTED on how your school is actively supporting the need to inform, educate and support student's emotional wellbeing and mental health; It can also be used for CPD whereby individual certificates for staff attending can be given upon request.
