Event description

Description

WorldSkills UK are travelling throughout England and Wales to show apprentices and students how skills competitions can change their lives.
Pay increases, promotion and plenty of opportunities are what former entrants to WorldSkills UK Competitions tell us they have benefited from. But just don’t take our word for it. Here’s our Skills Champions saying it how it is.

In a recent survey, over 95% of young people who took part in WorldSkills UK Competitions believed that taking part in our skill competitions improved their technical and employability skills, while over 80% felt competing had increased their confidence, team working, management and ability to work under pressure.
Whatever the background or learning ability of your apprentices and students, all will benefit from entering WorldSkills UK Competitions, which open for entry on 1 March 2018.

Purpose: Running concurrently to the apprentice and student session, will be an information session for your practitioners and teaching staff to provide them with practical ways to successfully embed skills competition activity into the curriculum. This activity is proven to drive up standards and stretch apprentices and students in their learning and development.

WorldSkills UK would also encourage the college invite employers it works with on apprentice training programmes to attend. The Apprenticeship Levy can be used to support apprentices’ involvement in WorldSkills UK Competitions.

WorldSkills UK is also keen to discuss any barriers your staff feel are preventing apprentices and students from entering WorldSkills UK Competitions, particularly those from under-represented groups.

Those attending will:

- Understand how skills competitions can be embedded into the curriculum.

- Learn how the Apprenticeship Levy can be used to fund apprentices’ participation in WorldSkills UK Competitions.

- Discuss how skills competitions can be used as a tool for End Point Assessment.

- Discuss how more apprentices and students from under-represented groups can be encouraged to enter WorldSkills UK Competitions.
