Worship Academy - April 5th 2017 - Children and Young People are NOT the future of the church! - Natalie Newton at 7pm
An exploration in engaging and enabling the participation of children and young people in the worshipping life of the church - here and now. It will definitely involve some participation and activities.
This session is led by Natalie Newton - Regional Coordinator for the Discipleship & Ministries Learning Network (DMLN) in Southern & Islands.
Natalie says:- I coordinate a team of learning & development officers and together we are responsible for learning and development in the Methodist Church within the Southern & Islands region. My specialism is ‘Church and Community’ and within that I specialise in supporting, training and enabling those working with children and young people.
Brief Biography:- I started my working life as a youth and community worker for 8 years in the Wakefield Methodist Circuit. During that time I was lucky enough to be asked to help establish the Wakefield Street Angels. I then moved back to my homeland and worked as the South West Area Coordinator for The Leprosy Mission, where I found a passion for standing up and speaking out for the poorest, broken and overlooked in our worldwide communities. Since then I have worked for the URC as a National Children’s and Youth Work officer and have written Adult Safeguarding training and policies for the Baptist Union of Great Britain. I now work regionally for the Methodist Church inspiring, empowering and resourcing individuals, churches, circuits and districts to flourish as the people of God in their communities – whatever that looks like for them! I live in leafy Surrey and enjoy getting out for long walks with my Dalmatian, Toby. Occasionally I let my husband Andy tag along too! I also enjoy crafting, and will happily try my hand at all sorts of craft activities, from glass fusing to quilting - although the results are not always as initially intended!
A reminder that Worship Academy is open to all leaders of worship. That is our Local Preachers (for whom it counts in their commitment to CLPD – Continuous Local Preacher’s Development), all our Worship Leaders, all our Ministers and anyone else who is considering to become Local Preachers or Worship Leaders in the future. If there are people you want to invite as a way of helping them think in that direction, they are welcome too. All we ask, is that everyone who comes is booked in. If you book for a meal and then can't make it, please let us know. Email email@example.com.
Just a reminder of our timings:-
7:00pm Arrive and eat and have fellowship over food tea & coffee with other leaders of worship, Local Preachers, Ministers etc.
