This is a one day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.
This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, Grassroots Suicide Prevention, YMCA Downslink Group, Joint Diversity and West Sussex County Council.
Introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI) 1 day course
With emphasis on working with children, young people and families
Motivational Interviewing is a refined guiding approach that uses counselling skills and techniques to encourage clients into deciding to make positive behavioural changes. It originated in the drugs and alcohol field, but has been successfully used in many other fields and behaviours including smoking, eating, sexual behaviour, offending behaviour and many other behaviour choices. MI strategies avoid confrontational methods, because the aim is to get the client to be the one who presents the arguments for change.
Course aims to:
- Introduce the principles of MI.
- Introduce and practise MI strategies and skills.
- Examine different possible applications of MI specifically when working with children, young people and families
