This is a half-day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.

This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex MindGrassroots Suicide PreventionYMCA Downslink GroupWest Sussex County Council and West Sussex CCGs.

What is Youth MHFA Lite?

Youth MHFA Lite offers an introduction to young people’s mental health and to mental health issues. 


What will I learn on a Youth MHFA Lite course?

The aims of Youth MHFA Lite are to enable participants to:

  • Gain an understanding of some of the common mental health issues affecting young people, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders and psychosis
  • Work more effectively with young people living with mental health issues
  • Identify stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
  • Support young people with a mental health issue and relate to their experiences
  • Experience a taste of the contents of the Youth MHFA course.


How will I learn?

The Youth MHFA Lite course is a three hour session.

You’ll receive a Youth MHFA Lite manual that you can take away with you at the end of the course and a certificate from MHFA England.

Getting to the Venue

For GPS satellite navigation systems, enter the post code BN11 1HA.

High Street multi-story car park, BN11 1LZ has reasonable tariffs at £1 per hour for up to 5 hours or £10 for 24 hours. If parking between 6pm and 6am, the rate is £1 per hour up to a maximum of £3.

Free parking is available at the Civic Centre car park (off Stoke Abbott Road, BN11 1HQ) and on-street within certain times.

Tea and coffee with also be provided during mid-morning break. 

Registration fee

Your £10 registration fee for this course helps towards the additional venue and refreshment costs.



Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.

We aim to promote good mental health through the provision of high quality services and through campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and understanding.

Our services support young people, adults, older adults, carers and families affected by mental health problems. We offer help and advice to people around improving their physical and mental well-being, strengthening their self-esteem and confidence, building strong relationships with family, friends and communities, getting into education, training and work and achieving their personal and social goals.

We also work actively in local communities to raise awareness about mental health and tackle the stigma and discrimination.
