This workshop is for 5 days at Dumfries House estate in Ayrshire on 15th-19th July 2019 - 10am-3.30pm daily.

This workshop offers students an introduction to weaving, and to familiarise themselves with the equipment and processes used in weaving. Pupils will work on hand looms to create mini fabric samples, they will also learn the warping process for a table loom , learn how to follow a pattern and create their own samples. There will be lots of hints & tips given for creating low or no cost looms & ideas for creating yarns to weave with.

Practical demonstrations will be given at the beginning of each session and thereafter the tutor will give one to one tuition where required. There will be a photo shoot at the end of the day to record the results. Skills learned could be applied to future creative projects.

Skills and knowledge gained will include: Ability to name parts of a loom and other weaving equipment/ weaving processes, and related terminology/ Designing, planning and winding a warp/ Dressing and threading a loom/ Weaving using a variety of lifting plans and own experimentation/ Finishing techniques.
