Event description

Description

WOW - Women of the World is a global festival that celebrates the incredible achievements of women and girls, takes a frank look at the obstacles they face, and creates a space to discuss new solutions together. Originating at Southbank Centre in London in 2011, it has taken place in 20 cities across five countries – from New York to Sydney, and from Pakistan to Finland.

WOW is returning to Bradford - a local festival with a global outlook. Will you help us shape it?

Each WOW festival is made up of talks, discussions, music, activism, performance, mentoring and big ideas, and features women who are breaking the mould in science, entrepreneurship, the arts, sport, economics, health, and business. It is deliberately very diverse, with sessions on personal issues right through to those of national and international concern, including war and peacekeeping, body image, violence against women and girls, race, religion, the role of men in gender equality, older women’s voices, young women’s stories, and whether Beyoncé is a feminist icon.

Previous speakers have included Malala Yousafzai, Christine Lagarde, Salma Hayek, Annie Lennox, Gordon Brown, Julie Walters, Patrick Stewart and many more including hundreds of women and men who don’t have public profiles but are working everyday to achieve gender equality. Over 25,000 people came to WOW London in 2017, thousands more have come to WOWs across the world including Bradford last year and festival organisers have collaborated on cross-continental projects.

WOW brings together women and men to speak about how they are making the world a fairer place and why it matters and you can always expect joy, laughter, passion, insight and a chance to share your own stories. Watch the WOW Bradford film here.

People from across the UK already come to WOW in London and now it’s time to welcome WOW Bradford back in November 2017 following a successful festival in 2016.

Will you join us in planning what WOW in Bradford 2017 should be about? What would you like to see represented, what ideas can be developed into the programme and what in your opinion are the most relevant topics for women today and what can we build on from the previous WOW Bradford.

Please come to a WOW Thinkin on one of our three dates:

Wednesday 28th June @ 6pm-8pm at Kala Sangam

Thursday 29th June @ 1pm-3pm at Kala Sangam

Saturday 1st July @ 2pm-4pm at Margaret McMillan Tower
