Description

Write Away!

What is it?

Write Away! creates a space where research students can kick-start their ‘final write-up’ in the company of their peers and under the guidance of those who have experience of the key elements of successful academic writing. We have found that the supportive environment of social writing has had enormous benefits for those involved. The programme will run over five full days, the first three with guided and taught elements and the final two days as whole day writing retreats. Participants must be able to attend for the duration and accomdation wil be provided to those who need it.

Write Away! will run over five full days and include:

  • Three days of guided and taught elements
  • Workshops & one-to-one consultations on academic writing
  • Guided sessions on mindfulness, formatting your thesis & Pilates (optional)
  • Two days of whole day writing retreats
  • Evening social activities (optional)
  • Accommodation provided (optional)

Who is it for?

Write Away! is for doctoral students who will complete their thesis in 2019. Thus our activities will focus exclusively on the writing tasks involved in planning, producing and finishing the thesis. Participants will have to have completed a substantial part of their research writing, but may be engaged in completing chapters, editing text or polishing previous writing. Every participant must bring a laptop and be prepared to share evidence of their writing and research achievements to date.

Facilitator

Dr Grace D Poulter is a senior lecturer in Academic Writing at Glasgow Caledonian University. She is also an accredited IELTS examiner with many years of experience in teaching EAP to postgraduate students in the Scottish HE sector.

How do you take part?

To apply please write 500 words maximum on why you think Write Away! will benefit your thesis writing. The deadline for applications is 23 April, successful candidates will be contacted once the deadline has passed and all applications have been received.
