About this event
Let’s be honest: no one wants to read a blog that sounds like a textbook.
When your writing feels stiff or overly formal, it creates distance, and your clients are looking for connection. That’s why conversational blogs are so powerful: they help your reader feel understood, engaged, and more likely to stick around.
In this 60-minute workshop, you’ll learn simple, practical ways to make your blog posts sound more like you.
You’ll discover how to:
- Avoid “therapist-speak” and connect with everyday language
- Use tools to keep things flowing
- Break the “rules” of formal writing (on purpose) to sound more human
Let your natural voice come through while still sounding professional
You’ll walk away with a cheatsheet full of examples, blog-friendly questions to use, and an approach you can use right away on your next post.
Perfect for counsellors in private practice who want to sound more like themselves online, and keep clients reading to the very last line.
Learning Objective Participants Can Expect From This Event
- Participants will be able to apply conversational writing techniques (such as rhetorical questions, contractions, and tone shifts) to make their blogs more engaging.
- Participants will be able to identify and replace clinical or formal language with more natural, client-friendly alternatives.
- Participants will understand how conversational writing helps build trust, encourages connection, and increases blog readability and client engagement.
Who is This Workshop Appropriate For?
- This workshop is for counsellors in private practice who want their blog content to sound more natural and authentic, but worry that being conversational might sound unprofessional. It’s ideal for therapists who want their writing to reflect their real voice and values, and who want to create connection without overthinking every word.
How May This Workshop Impact Your Practice?
- Participants will leave feeling more confident in their writing voice and better able to create content that connects. By making their blogs easier to read and more relatable, they’ll build trust with potential clients, leading to stronger engagement and better visibility for their practice.

Jane Travis
Hi, I'm Jane Travis.
I’ve been blogging for almost 20 years, and over that time I’ve seen just how powerful it can be, not just for sharing your message, but for helping the right clients find you.
Now, I help counsellors in private practice use blogging as a simple, sustainable starting point for marketing that feels good. Because once you've got that foundation in place, it's so much easier to build everything else, whether that's newsletters, social posts, or a more visible online presence overall.
I’m also the author of Grow Your Private Practice, host of the Grow Your Private Practice Podcast, and I run the Grow Your Private Practice Membership - so yes, there’s a bit of a theme. What can I say? I like things to do exactly what they say on the tin!
It’s become my mission to help therapists move past the fear of “getting it wrong” and start writing content that feels natural, useful, and genuinely connects. You don’t need to be a perfect writer, you just need a few tools (and a bit of encouragement) to get started.
I’m really looking forward to running this workshop and helping you build something simple but powerful that you can rely on, especially on the days when writing feels like a slog.
