Event description
A writing & industry workshop presented by 404 Ink in association with the University of Strathclyde: WRITE ON THE EDGE! hosted by Aye Write

About this Event

You’re a budding writer, a spoken word performer in-waiting, maybe a general wordsmith who impresses their mates with their way with words – we’ve got a packed day of performances, panels and workshops just for you – 404 Ink-style (in assoication with the University of Strathclyde Creative Writing department and hosted by Aye Write.)

With some of Scotland’s top writers ready to inspire and possibly confront you (in a productive way) in talks, panels & workshops, WRITE ON THE EDGE is what you need to get your work closer to the finish line, whatever that may be.

We will be in MOIR DYER room in Glasgow's Mitchell Library.

Schedule:

10:00am - KEYNOTE

Welcome from 404 Ink's Laura Jones and University of Strathclyde's Andrew Meehan followed by keynote opening speech from the much beloved multi award-winning badass author Denise Mina. (Can you tell there's much love for Denise in team 404?)

11:00am - Wee break (literally and figuratively)

11:30am - INDUSTRY PANEL

Industry panel of agents and authors discussing the best ways to seek publication and what it's like once you've signed that all important contract. Including Jenny Brown (agent), Robbie Guillory (agent) and Janette Ayachi (author). Chaired by Vikki Reilly and including opportunity for Q&A.

12:30pm - 1:30pm - LUNCH BREAK

* Lunch not provided, unfortunately - you are welcome to bring your own or purchase lunch from the cafe in the library.

1:30pm - WRITING WORKSHOPS

Workshops on various methods of writing and performance from some of the industry's experts. Bring your work in progress or conjure something new on the day, whatever you think you'd benefit most from. Including...

Jenny Lindsay - focusing on poetry and performance

Rodge Glass - focusing on non-fiction

Doug Johnstone - focusing on fiction.

Attendees must choose one and will be asked their choice via email following ticket purchase. Workshops are first come first serve so if you're a late ticket buyer you may be immediately allocated to a workshop.

3pm - INDUSTRY ROUND TABLES (sponsored by Publishing Scotland)

Publishing round tables - your chance to ask 1-on-1 questions with publishers, agents and authors, including 404 Ink. A bit like speed dating but hopefully not as cringey. You could ask about your manuscript, maybe pitch us your idea, ask what route to publication is best for you, anything goes! (almost)

Confirmed to be taking part: Sha Nazir (Publisher at BHP Comics), Vikki Reilly (Publishing Scotland), Andrew Meehan (Strathclyde University Creative Writing Lecturer and author) - with more TBA.

With thanks to Publishing Scotland for sponsoring this section of the day.

4.30pm - 5.30pm - PERFORMANCES

We wind down the day by watching some pros perform their stories and poetry for you - including Chris McQueer, Imogen Stirling & Leyla Josephine.

We'll wrap up by 5.30pm and we must be out of the room by 6pm.
