Ruth Walters will give a presentation on the secrets of successful bid writing. A music graduate and post graduate in Library and Information Science, Ruth has spent her professional career working in public music libraries; most notably Westminster Music Library, joining as Deputy Librarian in 1989 and becoming Manager and Music Services Coordinator in 2009. During the course of her work she has established a number of successful partnerships whilst working for Westminster; for example with Open Age, the Bridge Community Project, Streetwise Opera, Making Music UK, WCC Armed Forces and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Through these partnerships the library has been able to offer free recitals, music workshops and work experience for local residents, families and schools.
She has been a member of IAML’s Trade and Copyright working group since 2011 and was elected to the IAML executive committee in 2013.
Fundraising and Grant Writing: Behind the Lines Programme
Following a series of free music workshops held in WML with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009 and 2010, Ruth secured funding from Arts Council England to support Behind the Lines - a 12 month programme of participatory events in partnership with the RPO, to encourage local communities to engage with the Library and its collections. Opening in October 2013, the programme uses the centenary of the First World War as the thematic link and inspiration for a series of interactive workshops and creative projects designed for adult, family and school participants.
