Description

About

A course for young writers (5-13) which aims to get the creative juices flowing predominantly using visual prompts (collages & videos).

Join us for this interactive writing workshop with children's writer, Steve Katon. Participants will make a series of collages from magazine images and videos based on character, setting and plot to help develop a new idea for a story. You will then create a master collage that represents your overall synopsis before having a go at a short writing sprint using the visual prompts you have created or engaged with.

The aim of the workshop is to help generate ideas from different sources (Steve is a visual writer who is inspired by images either from his imagination or from the printed page, art or film) and to understand how visual prompts can be used to bridge a gap between the writer's imagination and the page. Building a collage inspires playfulness and helps your budding writers understand and visualise their stories.

About Steve Katon

Steve describes as a storyteller – he lives locally – he writes a lot, normally for children – he is nearing the end of a magical fantasy trilogy set in the 19th century. He LOVES stories in all forms… and he is REALLY interested in WHY we tell stories. WHAT makes a good one. Steve likes listening to stories and standing up and telling them AND he wants to learn more! He's currently turning his children’s trilogy into a GRAPHIC NOVEL and then he wants to look at making it into a SCREENPLAY. Hopefully, it's clear that he LOVES stories AND LEARNING.

Book your place

The cost of the workshop is £10 per child, £13 for two together, £15 for three.
