In 2020, Wakefield's Upper Westgate Conservation Area was designated as a Heritage Action Zone. As part of the Westgate Heritage Action Zone Project, jointly funded by Wakefield Council and Historic England, the Civic Society published a book about the history of the street and surrounding area.

The book's author, Civic Society President Kevin Trickett MBE, will give an illustrated talk about how the book came to be written as part of a project with Wakefield Historical Society and Edgelands Arts, and will also explore the history of the Heritage Action Zone. The talk will additionally cover some of the work that was undertaken as part of the project to improve the appearance of some of Westgate's key buildings.

The talk will be held in the Society's room at the Town Hall and everyone who attends will be given a free copy of the book.

T his event is organised as part of our contribution to Heritage Open Days 2025..
