Writing History - Exploring the history of Westgate with Kevin Trickett MBE
Date and time
Join Kevin Trickett MBE as he explains the process he followed when writing about local architectural history.
About this event
Join us for this special event when Wakefield Civic Society President Kevin Trickett MBE will talk about his new book Westgate Wakefield and the process he followed in writing it.
This is the third book Kevin has written for the Society on local architectural heritage. Produced as part of the Westgate Historic High Street Heritage Action Zone project, the book explores the history of Westgate and its buildings. But how do you go about writing such a book? Where do you start when telling the history of a street that goes back to medieval times - and possibly a lot further?
Kevin will share insights into the writing process and how he called on research done (and being done) by others, old photographs and maps to shed light on the history of one of Wakefield's most important - and ancient - streets.
As a bonus, everyone who attends this free event will receive a free copy of the book courtesy of funding provided by Historic England and Wakefield Council as part of the project.
(Please note that this is a repeat of the talk given on 10th May.)
As spaces are limited, it would be appreciated if you could advise the organiser or cancel your booking via the Eventbrite website should you be unable to attend. This will allow others to book in your place.
