Writing Home - connecting and healing with lost ancestors through writing
Overview
Ø 18:00-20:00 Tuesdays from 4th November - December 9th
Ø St Nicholas community centre meeting room
Ø Suggested donation £5 per weekly session or £25 for six weeks
The workshops will examine family history to uncover the root of current problems in our lives and relationships, drawing on the strength of our ancestors and their wishes for the future, to find our strength and encouragement for living well today. This course will appeal to people with an interest in family history, creative writing, spiritual and emotional wellbeing, personal growth, and acceptance.
The sessions will involve a combination of family history research (conducted for the most part away from the class), theoretical exploration of the resonance of trauma through generations, reading and creative writing practical exercises and sharing work if participants wish. Each week will have a writing exercise and an aspect of theory to explore in relation to family history and ancestral/transgenerational trauma, alongside examples of work which resonate with and explore relevant themes. The final session will bring together group members and their loved ones, if they would like, to share and celebrate our ancestors and debrief from the experience.
