About this event

Arts • Theatre

In this session, we explore how to write in regional dialect. What techniques can you use to capture the essence of a particular place whilst making sure your work makes sense to a reader who may have never been there?

Perhaps you want write about your hometown or a particular period in history where the dialect is specific? In this session, we'll find ways to get this down on the page and consider what research you need to do in order to make sure your work is specific and accurate.

Participants are invited (but not obliged!) to complete a short preparatory exercise:

Transcribe a short overheard conversation , think about techniques you can use to convey the natural speech patterns.
