This series of three sessions aims to support Year 5 and Year 6 teachers to develop their understanding and confidence in assessing writing through termly CPD sessions that include opportunities to moderate writing with other Year 5 and Year 6 teachers.

Teachers may attend all three sessions or select individual sessions from the series.

Session 2: Greater depth

This second session will focus on the concept of ‘Exceeding ARE’ or ‘Greater Depth’ (In year 6, the ‘Pupil can’ statements relating to the Greater Depth standard) and develop knowledge of this. Moderation and discussion of higher attaining pupils’ writing will then support teachers to develop their understanding of greater depth in context and to consider next steps for their teaching.

Attendees will:

Unpick the National Curriculum requirements for Year 5 and Year 6 writing
Develop key subject knowledge related to KS2 writing requirements
Participate in moderation of pupils’ writing in order to discuss, refine and secure assessments and next steps
