Writing on the Go - December Writing Sessions
Event Information
About this Event
Is December a busy time for you? Our structured writing sessions help you to make time for writing on a weekly basis.
We offer several facilitated writing slots per week. All you have to do is show up.
Bring whatever small or large project you have. Learn how to snack-write when you have only two hours. Break down your projects into manageable chunks and make steady progress, one paragraph at a time.
We offer you the accountability, support and motivation to keep you going!
Research shows that structured writing sessions...
- provide dedicated time and space for writing by intentionally and purposefully disengaging from other tasks
- create accountability among participants by sharing and assessing specific goals
- are a safe space to discuss writing challenges and increase the wellbeing of academics and PhD researchers by creating a sense of connectedness
(see Murray and Newton 2009; Stevenson 2020)
What happens in a writing session?
We log into Zoom, take 5 minutes to set goals and share them with the group. Then we write quietly alongside each other during timed sessions of just over 2 hours. When the timer stops, we we take stock and discuss challenges such as writers' block, lack of concentration or how to avoid distractions.
Four trained facilitators will guide you through the process — all you have to do is show up!
What are the writing times?
We offer three facilitated writing slots per week on Zoom. Join as few or as many as you like. Two of the sessions work well for writers in the U.S. (East Coast and mid-West) who have asked to write with us.
Mondays:
- Start your week: 9:00am–11:15am (UK time)
- Afternoon kick: 2:00pm–4:15pm (UK time)
U.S.-based writers can use the afternoon session to start their day with us.
Thursdays:
- Afternoon kick: 2:00pm–4:15pm (UK time)
U.S.-based writers can use the afternoon session to start their day with us.
