About this event
Hi friends!
Many of you know I’ve been working on a PhD on physical pain and expression. I did a workshop with Andrew McMillan with a few writing exercises that went really well, and in preparation for workshops I’ll be running with Bronllys Hospital in Autumn, I’ve been wanting to expand these workshops and experiment with what works.
I want to start with a series of 4 workshops that are an hour and a half each. Each will have different exercises, and the aim is that anyone can come to as many or as few as they’d like. To ensure the group can work together, I’ll be capping the attendance in each workshop to fourteen participants! While some of these exercises may use pain as a starting point, I hope we can think more general about how we can write emotions and physical sensations that escape language.
We may be looking at poems by Don Paterson, Emily Dickinson, Anne Sexton, Stevie Smith, John Donne, John Berryman, and others.
These are the following dates/times for each workshop — I’ve included weekend and weekday options at different times to help suit varying schedules! Attendance is £12 per workshop.
JUNE 13TH: 3 PM
JUNE 15TH: 11 AM
JUNE 19TH: 3 PM
JUNE 23RD: 11 AM
On the morning of the workshop, you’ll be given a link to a Zoom meeting that we’ll use for the session. In edition, I also offer one-to-one poetry editing for £40 for a 45 minute discussion of your poems. In these sessions, you can receive feedback on up to 6 pages of poetry, and we can discuss your general aims for the future.
If these go well, I’d love to do more. I look forward to writing with you! Please do share with anyone who may be interested.
A quick about me: I’m currently undertaking an AHRC-funded PhD on pain at Aberystwyth University. I’ve published three pamphlets with various presses, and my fourth pamphlet ‘Caviar’ is upcoming with Out-Spoken Press. My poetry has been published in The Poetry Review, The White Review, and Poetry London. I’ve run workshops for The Writing Squad, Poetry Business, and independently.
