About this event

This two hour workshop will be led by The Craft House’s creative writing tutor, Alyson Faye.* It is suitable for beginners, those who have previously written poetry and for those who would like to start submitting their work to markets and magazines.

We will look at poems by poets such as Carol Ann Duffy, Wendy Cope, Yorkshire-based James Nash and Brian Bilston. We will discuss different forms of poetry, Haiku, Sonnets etc. and where to look for inspiration to get you and keep you writing.

The emphasis is on having fun, and all the exercises are tutor-led, with resources being provided by the tutor. Just bring your pen, or laptop or notepad.

There will be an opportunity to share your work, work in pairs, receive some feedback from the tutor in the workshop, and there will be take-away information sheets of top tips and magazines/markets to submit your poetry to.

Price is £25 per person.

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with two handrails). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, from first-time participants to people with existing skills (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We also cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss. Please note that all our events are subject to us achieving minimum booking requirements, as we need to ensure they are commercially viable for our tutors - if we have to cancel an event, we will refund your ticket and give you as much notice as possible.
