About this event

Are you a local business looking to secure funding or win contracts? Join us for an informative, practical and engaging networking event designed to help you master the art of writing successful bids and grant applications.

Hosted in Weeley, Clacton-on-Sea, this session is tailored for local businesses seeking to improve their chances of success when applying for funding or responding to tender opportunities. Whether you're aiming for council contracts, government grants, or other funding streams, this workshop will provide the tools and insights you need.

While the focus is on business, the content will also be valuable for charities, community groups, and third-sector organisations interested in strengthening their applications.

Your Speakers:

Yvette Wetton is the Head of Infrastructure at Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST), a local infrastructure organisation that supports local Community Organisations, Charities, Community Interest Companies and Charity Incorporated Organisations. This session will provide practical guidance on applying for grants. We’ll cover how to make sure that you are 'bid ready' so that you are best placed to write strong applications and avoid some common mistakes.

Gareth Heard from Essex County Council will be sharing valuable information on the brand new Ambitious Essex Funding Finder Tool which has been developed to help businesses, partners, and stakeholders easily find relevant funding opportunities. The tool officially launches on 3 September 2025, and sits alongside their wider innovation work, including the development of an Essex Innovation Framework and innovation grant mentoring programme.

Representitives from University of Essex will be sharing practical insights into how businesses can tap into funding opportunities, including the benefits of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) for driving innovation. Learn how to craft a compelling application with a clear ‘golden thread’ running through it, explore the power of forming consortiums to access larger funding pots, and get a clearer understanding of key funding streams like Innovate UK.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Where to find funding opportunities
  • How to write clear, compelling bids that stand out
  • Understanding what funders and procurement teams look for
  • Common mistakes and how to avoid them
  • Real-life examples of good applications
  • Tips for tailoring your approach to different opportunities
