Writing Up Qualitative Research

Writing Up Qualitative Research

By Professor Karen O'Reilly
Online event

Overview

A workshop on how to pull themes together into something coherent, with Karen O’Reilly.

When writing up qualitative research it is important to be faithful to our participants, to acknowledge diversity and complexity, to hear minority as well as majority voices, and to remember the relevance of diverse contexts. This workshop will consider how to address all these concerns while also avoiding the temptation to turn qualitative insights into superficial-sounding numbers or disparate themes.

Drawing on Karen’s new book Qualitative Research Methods for Everyone, we think about how to sort themes into complex, interpretive typologies, or processes. We talk about concepts and theories and how they can frame our writing without imposing themselves on the structure. We talk about the intersection of the macro, meso and micro.

We also have a conversation about the methodology chapter and its place in our writing, as well as how to write it with confidence.
