Short Story Workshop: A Sense of Place

Using Jane Austen’s House in Chawton as inspiration, this creative writing workshop will give you the techniques and confidence to write a short story where the setting is paramount. We’ll work through a series of exercises including inspiration, getting started, characterisation, endings, and how to make the place your characters inhabit crucial to your story.

Claire Fuller is a novelist and short story writer. Her debut novel, Our Endless Numbered Days won the Desmond Elliott Prize, her second, Swimming Lessons was shortlisted for the Encore Prize, and her third critically acclaimed novel, Bitter Orange, has recently been published. She has won both the BBC Opening Lines competition, and the Royal Academy / Pin Drop Short Story Award for her short fiction.

Suitable for all levels, no experience necessary. Please bring a packed lunch.
