Event description

Description

“No one should tell you the end of your story when you have only just started.”

A free showcase of the company’s new touring production, Written.

As their parents work the last night at the youth club before it closes down, flaky Saoirse can’t work out whether to blame social media or Brexit, whilst rejected Tyger discovers he’s ‘too soft’ to be boyfriend material. A few weeks later and Saoirse’s conviction to seeing both sides inadvertently makes her the new poster girl for a youth-led, right-wing group. Meanwhile Tyger ‘mans up’, suddenly becoming popular with his peers and groomed for a county lines gang. Both separately trapped, both believe they are close to becoming tragic case studies, like the ones their conscientious parents continually warn them about. In a panic, Saoirse and Tyger decide to wrestle back some control over their own lives, and work out “how to work it out”.

This project will highlight the role of creative arts in supporting young people’s emotional well-being and will be supported by a series of outreach workshops across Bexley and Greenwich.

Performed by Danny Malek and Dani Cey. Written by Alex Cooke (17^3, Resilience). Directed by Kaleya Baxe (Patricia Gets Ready - VAULT 2020, Snowflake - Assistant Director Kiln Theatre). Script Supervisor by Ola Animashawun (National Theatre Connections, Royal Court). Set Design by Cory Shipp. Sound by Beth Duke. Stage Management by Louise Rouse. Produced by Suha Al-Khayyat.
