Primary Maths Brunch 2021

About this Event

Come and join us for our new and exciting virtual format!

This inspiring virtual gathering is perfect for any member of staff that works with children aged 4 to 11, including teaching assistants, classroom teachers and senior leaders.

You'll enjoy getting involved in a variety of creative and thought-provoking workshops which will be led by a range of experienced maths specialists as well as listening to key messages from Debbie Morgan CBE (Director for Primary Mathematics, National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics).

You are sure to leave the virtual brunch feeling motivated and inspired to try some of the ideas shared in your own classroom. As well as our guest line-up (see below), we'll be running a TT Rockstars competition, and hosting a bonus Headteacher Feature!

We're delighted to announce details of our guest line-up!

Dr Debbie Morgan CBE

Keynote Speech

Opening the Primary Maths Brunch with her keynote presentation will be Dr Debbie Morgan CBE, Director of Primary Mathematics at the NCETM.

Dr Sue Gifford

Spatial reasoning in the early years: what it is and why should we teach it?

In this session we will consider how spatial activities might help children become good at maths.

Dr Jenni Back

Tools not crutches: using manipulatives to construct and explain mathematical thinking.

This workshop will demonstrate the importance of manipulatives throughout the primary phase and beyond to support children in explaining and developing their mathematical thinking, reasoning and problem solving.

Bruno Reddy

3 "reveals" about learning addition and subtraction.

Hands-on session using NumBots in which you'll find out what the data from 500,000 pupils tells us about teaching basic number facts for mastery.

Suitable for teachers of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Amy How

Rekenrek – “The most versatile, visual, mathematical tool”.

This virtual workshop is an introduction to the most versatile, visual, concrete manipulative that will transform the way you feel about using the CPA approach in KS1 and KS2.

While the majority of sessions are interactive and we’d love you to join us on the day, all content will be recorded, so if you can’t make it on the Saturday, you can still purchase a ticket and watch at your own convenience!

Please note that in order to book this event, you will be asked to provide certain personal data which may be disclosed to White Rose Maths for the purposes of administering the event.
