The WSA Safeguarding Community event will take place on the 18th Sep at the National Centre, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff CF11 9SW from 09.45am – 14.00 for a 10.00 start.

We will be joined by representatives from Cwm Taf Morgannwg & Cardiff and Vale Safeguarding Boards to provide a greater insight into the role of the Boards and to discuss how sport can access support and greater engagement with them.
10.45 – 12.00
A facilitated discussion in respect of the ongoing Safe Sport UK work, and the following open Welsh Government consultations:
Consultation on the national strategy for preventing and responding to child sexual abuse 2025 to 2035
Consultation on the Draft Child Minding and Day Care Exceptions (Wales) Order 2026 and the proposal for Voluntary Approval Scheme for Childcare, Playwork and Activity Providers.
12.00 – 13.00
WSA Legal Partner Hugh James will discuss the impact of existing policies in relation to access to changing rooms and other shared spaces in light of the Supreme Court’s decision on the definition of sex within the Equality Act 2010. Hugh James colleagues will cover whether organisations should change policies in advance of updated Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance and how best to balance the rights of all sport participants.
The event will close with a networking lunch with colleagues from the WSA Facilities Community and the WSA Safeguarding Community 13.00-14.00.
