1st Presenter: Dr Alina Congreve - Principal Lecturer in Sustainable Planning
Presentation Title: "Our Hidden Services Revealed: A Role For Ecosystems in Decision Making?"
Presentation Overview: Successful approaches to substantial planning should balance the needs of society and individuals with the environment, by utilising, protecting and enhancing ecosystem service provision. This talk will look at what changes are needed to embed ecosystem services in to main stream decision making.
Biography: Alina joined the University of Hertfordshire in 2011 following four years in the School of Real Estate and Planning at the University of Reading. She is developing work on how ecosystem services could be better integrated into planning decisions and is a Course Director of the MSc in Sustainable Planning at Hertfordshire.
2nd Presenter: Claire Wansbury - Associate Director at Atkins
Presentation Title: "Ecosystem Service Valuation - A Quick Introduction to Terms and Techniques"
Presentation Overview: This talk will give the audience an overview of: what ecosystem service valuation is about; how and when it can benefit your decision making; and some of the simplest approaches that can be used.
Biography: Claire Wansbury FCIEEM has over 22 years’ experience as an ecologist, integrating biodiversity into development projects. In recent years she has worked with environmental economists to advise on ecosystem services.
3rd Presenter: Louise Clarke - Group Sustainability Manager at Berkeley Group
Presentation Title: "Putting ecosystem services into Practice"
Presentation Overview: This talk will provide a range of examples on how to incorporate biodiversity into projects explaining the key stages, which stakeholders to engage with and showcase a number of projects where biodiversity has been incorporated into the project.
Biography: Louise has worked on a range of issues including Green Infrastructure, biodiversity, climate change adaptation and Water Sensitive Urban Design. Louise now works on putting these principles into practice at the Berkeley Group.
