Join an accessible walk and roll for Disabled people at the beautiful WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, learning about the birds from all around the world that can be found on site.

For those that live in Bristol City, there is an accessible mini-bus to WWT Slimbridge. Mini-bus pickup will be from your home at approx. 11:00am and arrival back home at approx. 3:00pm.

About

Join us at Slimbridge for an accessible walk and roll for Disabled people. Slimbridge is a beautiful wetland centre an hour from Bristol that is famous for its birds.

The walk will be on flat dry ground that is wheelchair accessible. There will be lots of points where you can sit down and rest, and accessible loos nearby.

We will be led by one of the Slimbridge team who will teach us about what we see. They will be joined by a Disabled person, Emma Geen, who will be there to support you and make sure you feel comfortable.

A simple free packed lunch will be on offer for those want it. Please tell us about your dietary needs when booking your ticket.

Accessibility

We can pay for access needs such as a PA or BSL translator. You can hire a manual wheelchair or mobility scooter from Slimbridge free of charge.

The route we are taking is along a flat, hard surfaced path. The are places to sit and stop along the route, at about every 5 mins. The walk/roll will be at a very gentle pace, we will go at a leisurely speed that everyone is comfortable with.

For Disabled people who live in Bristol and need transport there will be an accessible mini-bus.

We can also cover fuel costs for Disabled people who live in Bristol and what to drive themselves. Those not taking the mini-bus will be welcome to stay on site after the walk and roll.

We can make changes to the walk and roll based around the needs of the group. Jargon Buster:

Accessible: When a Disabled person can use or take part in something because
their needs have been met.

Accessibility: Whether something is accessible or not.

Access needs: What a Disabled person needs to do or fully take part in something.

British Sign Language translator (BSL): This is a
person that helps Deaf people talk to people who don’t use BSL. BSL is
the language used by Deaf people. It uses hand gestures.

Personal assistant (PA): Someone who supports a Disabled person with their access needs

Wetland: A place that is very wet and has lots of reeds and birds like ducks and geese.
