Event description
WXMB 2 present a two-part event, starting with a discussion on finding momentum and motivation, followed by an Open Decks DJ session.

About this Event

WXMB 2 proudly present a two-part event in collaboration with the new venue Colours Hoxton.

The first section will see some of the leading women in music discuss their practical methods to encourage self-motivation, plus their techniques for actually putting plans into action. Our panel will give an insight into how they find the momentum to keep persevering in the pursuit of innovation and ownership, and share any tips they have to push past 'mental block'.

For our panellists we are delighted to invite three driven and inspirational womxn - Carly, Amy and Jelly.

Pioneering brand new tastemaker radio platform & collective Sister Collective, Carly Wilford has become a trusted voice for the underground. A groundbreaking Presenter & DJ, she takes the artists she believes in and broadcasts their music to the world. Strongly connecting both the US and UK music scenes, her solid roots in the UK have helped to bring through so many of the artists on today’s airwaves.

Originally from the South Wales valleys, Amy Van-Baaren began interning at Resident Advisor's Berlin office in 2012 after three years organising raves in a bank vault in Cardiff. She joined RA’s London HQ as Festival Partnerships Coordinator in 2013 and has been a permanent fixture on the festival circuit ever since. As Head of Festival Partnerships, Amy oversees multifaceted projects at the world’s best electronic music festivals, including RA stage takeovers at Sónar Festival and Movement, as well as producing the RA x Dekmantel conference.

Jelly Cleaver is a guitarist, producer and singer-songwriter based in South London, and has been called ‘the next artist to make an impact on the London’s Jazz Scene’ by Supreme Standards. With an eclectic taste in music, Jelly is heavily involved in both the jazz and DIY/punk scenes in London. She's also an activist, and a strain of political dissent runs through her music. Her latest album, The Dream Jazz Manifesto, was released in May 2019, receiving critical acclaim and radio play by BBC Radio 1xtra, Rinse FM, Jazz FM and others.

The second section will be an open decks session, where participants are encouraged to bring their USBs to practice their mixing in a safe space free from judgement. Please note CDJs and mixer will be provided, however participants will need to bring their own USB and headphones.

The two sections are not mutually exclusive, and guests can come to one or both parts of the event. Entry will be on a first come first served basis, however priority will be given to ticket-holders.

Doors: 18:30

Discussion: 19:00 - 20:00

Open Decks Session: 20:00 - 22:00
