Invited by the EAST2046 Arts Festival, Xu Bing—one of the most influential figures in the global contemporary art scene—will present two documentary films at King’s College London: Xu Bing Tianshu Rocket (27 min) and Satellite Lake: Cosmic Reflections (17 min).
Xu Bing Tianshu Rocket documents the entire process from the project’s launch in late 2019 to the maiden launch of an art rocket on February 1, 2021, including an unexpected 0.3-second incident during the launch that left a giant crater and “stardust” on the Gobi Desert, sparking reflections on art, technology, and the unknown.
Satellite Lake: Cosmic Reflections—the first stop-motion animation shot in outer space using an expired satellite—tells the story of a lonely “little space man” traveling across the stars, offering a fresh cosmic journey from an extraterrestrial perspective, imbued with warmth, philosophical depth, and a touch of romance.
Following the screenings, Xu Bing will join remotely to introduce the Xu Bing Space Art Residency Program—the first artistic satellite program in human history, launched in 2024 and still ongoing. The event will conclude with an in-person conversation between Xu Bing and award-winning documentary director David Sington.
This marks the London premiere of both documentaries, presenting a cross-disciplinary dialogue between moving images, art, and space exploration, and offering a unique audio-visual and intellectual experience.
应EAST2046艺术节邀请，徐冰，全球当代艺术领域最具影响力的艺术家之一，将在伦敦KCL公映两部纪录片——《徐冰天书号》（27分钟）与《卫星上的湖泊》（17分钟）。《徐冰天书号》记录了从2019年底项目启动，到2021年2月1日首枚艺术火箭发射的全过程，以及发射中0.3秒的意外，留下戈壁滩的巨坑与“星点”，激发对艺术、科技与未知的思考。《卫星上的湖泊》则以过服役期卫星拍摄的首部外太空拍摄的定格动画，讲述一位孤独“太空小人”穿越星空、外太空视角的全新旅程，温暖、哲思且富有浪漫色彩。 两部影片放映之后，徐冰将远程连线介绍《徐冰艺术卫星创作驻留项目》——人类历史上首个艺术卫星计划，自2024年启动至今仍在进行中。活动最后，荣获多项纪录片大奖的导演David Sington将与徐冰展开现场对谈。 本次活动为两部纪录片在伦敦的首次公映，呈现影像、艺术与航天的跨界对话，带来一次独特的视听与思想体验。
