Description

Buildings Archaeology

Join us in Bedford for the 2018 YAC Leaders’ Weekend on 19th and 20th May 2018, for a weekend of inspirational archaeology themed around brilliant buildings.

During the weekend, we will be working with the team from Albion Archaeology and the Higgins Bedford (who, when wearing slightly different hats, are the gang behind Bedford YAC) to explore some of the buildings of Bedford whilst learning and using a range of archaeological recording skills.

You’ll be inspired by lots of activity ideas linked to buildings archaeology, which are relevant and usable wherever you are based in the UK. We’ll visit some intriguing archaeological sites, try our hands at recording real archaeology and discover how built heritage is protected. We'll also look at recording churches and graveyards, and much more besides.

There will be opportunities to share your own YAC stories and experiences with other YAC leaders and assistants, and to swap your inspirational ideas and practical advice. We'll learn more about an exciting new Heritage Lottery Funded project called 'Shout Out Loud' which will provide some interesting opportunities for YAC over the coming three years. Staff from the Council for British Archaeology will also be on hand to answer your questions.

Bed and breakfast accommodation and an evening meal on the Saturday night will be provided, and travel costs will be reimbursed.

A minimum contribution of £15 per person is requested to help cover the costs of providing the weekend; you will be asked to pay this once your place has been confirmed.

We look forward to seeing you in Bedford on 19th and 20th May 2018!
