Traditionally celebrated on the longest and darkest night of the year, Yalda night is a time for those we love and the local community to come together through the sharing of food, stories and poetry. This festive period, award winning Theatre company ZENDEH, in collaboration with Gosforth Civic Theatre, invite you to come together to share in an evening of celebration and remembrance inspired by the winter solstice.
YALDA: A winter warming, will encompass the atmosphere of the Iranian festival with allusion to ZENDEH’s original production TRANSIT, touring England and Scotland January to March 2017. As the performance explores a separated father and daughter’s attempt to reconnect, we invite the public to connect with ourselves and our collaborative artists: to eat, drink, share and maybe even make a paper plane or two.
The evening will include:
Flight inspired creative activities for children and their adults, and for everyone.
An exhibition preview of Erin McGrath's TRANSIT framed illustrations, and projections.
The original music scores of FLOCK, CINEMA and TRANSIT and a DJ set by Mariam Rezaei.
TRANSIT choreographer Nadia Iftkhar's solo durational character inspired performance.
Live performance poetry set to classical Iranian instrumentation and
The opportunity to reconnect with the ZENDEH team and learn more about ZENDEH membership and training opportunities.
