Event description

Description

Breakfast networking event - Free support to improve attendance, attainment and wellbeing and gain an England wide Award for your school’s provision for young carers and young adult carers

This free event will give school staff the opportunity to meet other professionals working to support young carers in their school and to share best practice. It will also give schools who are not currently involved with the Young Carers in Schools programme an opportunity to sign up.

Throughout the networking session, you will have the opportunity to access tools and resources to support your school, as well as hearing from an award winning school.

Who are young carers?

A young carer is a person under 18 who is caring unpaid for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. Unidentified and unsupported, they frequently experience difficulties in their education as a result of their caring role.

As many as one in 12 pupils could be young carer, experiencing difficulties in their education and not achieving their potential. Young carers are specifically mentioned in Ofsted’s Common Inspection Framework and are often eligible for free school meals and Pupil Premium Funding.

Young Carers in Schools is an England wide award programme offering a step by step guide to transforming and improving your provision for young carers in school. The programme provides an easy to follow set of standards to increase awareness amongst staff, pupils and families to increase identification of young carers and to improve attendance, attainment and achievement in school.

Refreshments including tea, coffee and pastries will be provided.
