The Sixth Form Team would like to invite all parents/carers of Year 12 students to an A-Level transition presentation on Wednesday 22nd October 2025.
It will take place in the Main Hall at the school between 6pm and 7 pm.
Please note parking is limited and NOT available on the Coach Park. Please park at the Main entrance and near the tennis courts (on Church Street, turn right into the main entrance to the school and either park at the main entrance or go through to the tennis courts on the right-hand side), however please try and walk wherever possible.
A-Levels represent a radical change from the GCSE study of last year and your knowledge and understanding of the process will enable you to help and support your son/daughter. All parents/guardians are expected to attend in order that they familiarise themselves with the nature of the two-year post-16 programme. If you are unable to attend, please arrange for another family member or friend to attend so that the information can be shared. We have scheduled the event later in the day than normal in order to allow people to get home from work.
The evening will cover the following:
- The nature of A-level study and how it differs from GCSE
- Guided study and ‘free’ periods.
- Home study - the role and significance
- Target Grades, monitoring of progress, and intervention strategies
- Timetable of assessment
- Futures/careers including the use of Unifrog to prepare for a university or degree apprenticeship.
- Wider Opportunities for personal development including work experience, positions of responsibility, volunteering, and additional courses.
The overarching theme is how parents can be involved at each step of the two-year journey to support and help maximise the outcomes for their son/daughter.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 22nd October.
Yours faithfully
Mr A Youngs & Mrs K Smith
Head of Sixth Form & Deputy Head of Sixth Form
