Description

YGN Presents: Music and Social Change

YGN will look at what happens when artists and musicians get involved with politics and campaigning. How is music used to raise awareness of social issues and create social change? How have British musicians and campaigners worked together to organise effective and authentic campaigns using live shows, public platforms, content creation and social media? Are there any pitfalls or challenges that come with using music in activism? We’ll be looking at campaigns from the anti-racist campaigns of the 1970s to 2017’s Grime4Corbyn.

Young Guns Network has been providing a meeting point for young, ambitious media professionals since 2013. Following its inception, over 1,500 under-30s have joined and continue to engage with the initiative’s events, conversations and, of course, other members. Retaining the YGN blueprint, 3 respected guests will be leading the inspiring talks and Q&As to discuss their respective fields.

Joining guest host Remi Harris on the night will be:

Becka Hudson, Team Member, Grime4Corbyn
Becka Hudson is a member of #Grime4Corbyn, a campaign and event series celebrating young people's voices in the 2017 election, and their art, discussion and participation in life outside of electoral politics. Becka also works as a freelance filmmaker and project producer, and is the Coordinator of the Radical Housing Network.

Pascale Frazer-Carroll, Engagement and Campaigns Advisor, Change.org
Pascale is an Engagement and Campaigns Advisor at Change.org, the world's largest petition platform, with nearly 15 million users in the UK. She supports people using the site to tell their stories and win campaigns: from ending tampon tax, to stopping the sale of caged eggs, to freeing British citizens like Nazanin Ratcliffe from prison abroad. Last year her team supported the #BritsSoWhite campaign which successfully prompted the awards to diversify their voting members.

Before joining Change.org Pascale worked as a Content Coordinator for TEDx events, helping world thought leaders to tell their stories and spread big ideas.

Roger Huddle, joint founder of Rock Against Racism, Member of Love Music Hate Racism
Lifelong socialist and anti-racist. Founder member of Rock Against Racism in 1976. Joint editor, with Red Saunders, of Reminiscences of RAR: Rocking Against Racism 1976-1982. Member of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ). Graphic artist, photographer, typographer and writer.

This is our last YGN event for 2017, so please join us for a pre-Christmas drink!
