---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time: 7pm until 6am

Location: 3aaa County Ground, Derbyshire County Cricket Club

Registration cost: £10 for those in full time employment or £5.00 for all others.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Sleep Easy?

Sleep Easy is a YMCA fundraising initiative raising money to help change the lives of vulnerable young people locally.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where does the money go?

All the money raised from YMCA Derbyshire's Sleep Easy event goes towards the Safe Front Door Campaign. This campaign enables YMCA Derbyshire to continue providing safe accommodation, opportunities for young people to engage in positive activities, work experience and volunteer opportunities and gain business mentors.

As a result of 80 people sleeping rough last year YMCA Derbyshire has;

- Provided 151 beds each night

- Accommodated 299 people (increase of 88 people from previous year)

We are proud to report:

- 72% of residents moved on to live independently

- 21% returned to live with family/friends.

- 47% are already in employment, training or volunteer posts.

Why take part?

We know Sleeping Rough for a night is a HUGE challenge so we’d like to quickly tell you about one of the young people we supported last year to give you an idea of the changes YOU can make to people’s lives as a result of Sleeping Rough For One Night:

Tom arrived at YMCA in August 2014.

“When I arrived at YMCA I was very troubled. I had experienced a breakdown when I moved in. My partner had miscarried and I was involved in hard drugs, alcohol abuse and criminal activity. I could not see any way out. This affected my mental health. I turned to the YMCA as I’d stayed before and knew they would help and I would feel safe. I needed regular support and somewhere safe to stay at night”.

In December 2015 Tom joined The Derbyshire Wildlife Project ran in partnership with YMCA. This gave him the chance to get out of his flat and in to the countryside. Tom describes the project as a chance “to escape my troubles for a while”. The project reminded Tom of what he used to enjoy before his troubles began when he worked for the RSPCA.

Tom’s also graduated from the Toyota Working Assets programme, another partnership project. Tom worked on the wildlife area while at Toyota. His hopes for the future are to gain employment with The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust or Toyota UK.

“As a result of these projects I have made changes to my life. I have two children which I now regularly see. The workers at YMCA understood where I came from. They provided me with the tools I needed to succeed on these projects; travel, food, clothes. They always encouraged me and never gave up. Even when I didn’t feel like I could go they’d say ‘just do the morning and see how you get on’ – then I’d end up doing the whole day”.

YMCA enabled Tom to improve his wellbeing, gain new skills and re-connect with nature. Tom is looking to move out of the YMCA Campus in to his own flat. I feel like I am a much stronger and happier person with something to live for”.

Tom got to this place due to the support and hope given to him by those at YMCA and The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Without the positive activities provided through YMCA partnerships and funding received through donations residents wouldn’t have the opportunity to build their skills set, improve their well-being and put their talents to good use.

What's included in your registration fee?

- Hot drinks throughout the night - please feel free to bring a flask to fill up.

- Snacks, hot soup, breakfast when you wake up (if you've been to sleep).

- A cardboard box to sleep in - (check the participant pack for tips on what to bring to make yourself as comfortable as possible).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Worried about having to raise a set amount of money?

You can set your own fundraising target. The point of the event is to raise awareness of homelessness in our city and we welcome everyone to come and take part regardless of how much you can raise! That being said, there's nothing wrong with some healthy competition and we regularly update the fundraising leaderboard.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What happens on the night?

Our annual 'Customise Your Box' competition is back! Prizes available for the top 3 boxes. Last years winners were Geldard's with their beach theme.

The evening then has an informal feel with time spent networking and chatting round the campfire. There is no set 'bed time'! You would be more than welcome to sit round the camp fire chatting all night if you wish.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What happens once I've registered?

A member of YMCA Derbyshire's Fundraising Team will contact you with all the information you need to set up your fundraising page and get prepared for the event itself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can’t make the event but would like to help?

This event is now in its SIXTH year! It gets bigger each year. Last year we received TV coverage on East Midlands Today and Sunday Politics Show. We'd welcome any donations or sponsorship for the event and would publically recognise this support in an agreed and appropriate manor. Please call 01332 579550 or email sleepeasy@ymcaderbyshire.org.uk to discuss sponsorship options.

Thank You - We really hope to see you there!
