Mae’r cwrs dwys hwn yn canolbwyntio ar y sgiliau sydd eu hangen i berfformio gweithred dreisgar argyhoeddiadol gyda chleddyf a tharian - system a geir ar draws hanes ac asgwrn cefn llawer o brosiectau gweithredu dramatig.

Mae'r hyfforddiant yn flaengar ac yn gorffen gyda pherfformiad ymladd sy'n cael ei asesu gan Arholwr Brwydro Dramatig yr Academi Brydeinig. Mae cyfranogwyr yn perfformio brwydr goreograffi gyda phartner o fewn cyd-destun golygfa wedi'i sgriptio. Os byddant yn llwyddiannus, bydd perfformwyr yn ennill Tystysgrif Lefel Bellach BADC mewn Cleddyf a Tharian, a gydnabyddir yn y diwydiant gan Equity a Spotlight.

Erbyn diwedd y gweithdy dylech fod yn gallu

British Academy of Dramatic Combat - Further Level Certification

CULT Cymru is working in partnership with Sherman Theatre to support artists and creative workers in improving their combat skills.

This course has been organised by Equity member Rachel Pedley & CULT Cymru.

Want to try your hand at fighting for stage and screen and gain an industry recognised certification doing so?

Then come and join us this August!

Due to the nature of the course a minimum number of training hours are required to enter the Examination, therefore you must have 100% attendance.

August 2022:

Mon 8th: 10.00 - 17.00

Thurs 11th: 10.00 - 17.00

Fri 12th: 14.00 - 17.00

Mon 15th: 14.00 - 17.00

Tues 16th: 10.00 - 17.00

For Who?

This course is open to anyone who has achieved their BADC Standard level of training and are now working towards Intermediate or Advanced actor-combatant status.

Certification from other academies (APC, BASSC etc) is treated reciprocally.

Participants must be aged 18 years or over.

Please note that the course is active and requires ongoing mental and physical engagement on a daily basis.

Aims

This intensive course focuses on the skills required to perform convincing violent action when armed with a sword & shield - a system found across history and the backbone of many dramatic action projects.

Details:

The training is progressive and culminates in a fight performance which is assessed by a British Academy of Dramatic Combat Examiner. Participants perform a choreographed fight with a partner within the context of a scripted scene. If successful, performers will attain a BADC Further Level Certification in Sword & Shield, which is industry recognised by Equity and Spotlight.

Learning Outcomes : By the end of the workshop you should be able to

  • Wield combat equipment with committed and sustainable technique
  • Use a dual weapon system for both offence and defence
  • Develop the expression of aggression and vulnerability
  • Combine and fully embody action and text.

What to bring:

  • Water and snacks to keep your energy up: we will be on our feet all day
  • Wear movement friendly clothes and trainers - no jeans or boots
  • Underwear that offers good support
  • Gloves are useful, but not essential. (e.g. Cycling gloves)
  • Plenty of layers - we will warm up and cool down across the day

Tutors - Bethan Clark

Bethan Clark is a Fight Director, Action Coordinator, Intimacy Director and a Senior Teacher with the BADC. She holds an MA in Classical Acting from Drama Centre and a BA in Drama from Exeter University.

Bethan’s Fight Direction includes: As You Like It (UK tour), Our Lady of Blundellsands (Liverpool Everyman), Lord of the Flies (Theatre Clwyd & Sherman Theatre), In Hell (RCSSD), The Last Ship (US tour), The Effect (English Theatre Frankfurt), Macbeth (Queens Theatre Hornchurch & Derby Playhouse), A View From The Bridge (York Theatre Royal), Our Lady of Kibeho (Royal and Derngate, Theatre Royal Stratford East), My Beautiful Laundrette (Leicester Curve).

Bethan is a guest lecturer at MetFilm School, University for the Creative Arts, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Wimbledon College of Arts and East 15.

Robin Hellier

Robin Hellier is a Fight Director, Probationary Teacher and Advanced actor-combatant with the BADC. He graduated from MA Classical and Contemporary Text (Acting) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and holds an MA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh.

Robin’s Fight Direction includes: Noises Off (Pitlochry Festival Theatre), Shakespeare in Love (Clifftown Theatre), Macbeth (Courtyard Theatre), and the Muse of Fire season at Bard in the Botanics (Hamlet, As You Like It, Henry V, Richard III).

Robin is a guest lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, East 15, University of Greenwich, Redroofs Theatre School and Middlesex University.

Bethan and Robin bring their industry expertise into the room to provide training that is applicable, accessible and enjoyable!

Mae gweithdai CULT Cymru yn cael eu darparu mewn amgylchedd cyfeillgar ac anfygythiol ble bydd cyfranogwyr yn cael cyfle i ofyn cwestiynau a chodi materion yn ystod y dydd.

CULT Cymru workshops are delivered in a friendly and non-threatening environment where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and raise issues during the day.

Prospect's BECTU Sector Training in Wales is partly funded by the Welsh Government’s Wales Union Learning Fund via the joint-union CULT Cymru project. By registering for this training course or event, you are accepting that your personal data will be shared with the funder as part of BECTU’s requirements to receive the funding. The data is used only to show outcomes and outputs and is securely maintained for a period of 10 years, as stated in contracts for the funding.

Cancellation and Refunds Policy

A full refund will be issued to delegates who cancel at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Delegates who cancel within the 2 week period will not be eligible for a refund unless we are able to find someone else to take their place. Please let us know as soon as possible if you find you're no longer able to attend the workshop.
