Description

Yoga and Mindfulness as a Clinical Educator

Open only to existing GP community teachers linked to Imperial College London (registered to teach with us)

Are you a ‘mindful’ medical practitioner? In today’s hectic world, how can we use and role model ‘mindful practice’ with our students, whilst drowning in paperwork ourselves?

Stress, anxiety and burnout are widespread at medical school and beyond. Mind-body interventions such as yoga and mindfulness can be used by both clinicians and students to improve personal wellbeing, however the benefits can extend much further. Applying the principles of mindfulness in the workplace can make us more attentive and receptive to our patients in the present moment, resulting in fewer clinical errors. In addition, these same characteristics are essential for an effective clinical teacher.

This workshop will cover how you can apply the principles of mindfulness and yoga to your work as clinicians and clinical educators, in addition to improving the wellbeing of yourself and your students. We will discuss strategies to improve teaching based on these ideas, and give you a practical taste of both yoga and mindfulness during the session.

Please come in comfortable clothes – yoga mats provided!

Your booking is free because you are an existing Imperial College GP teacher or a trainee please, ensure that you can attend on the relevant date otherwise you will block a place for someone who can.
