Event description

Description

YIHA2019 brings together key opinion leaders and pioneers in yoga, health care, yoga research, health policy, and government to address how we help transform the NHS through the integration of yoga.

The practice of yoga has always been devoted to the joint cultivation of mental and physical health. Thousands of years of practice and a strong, emerging body of evidence all indicate that people who practice yoga are healthier, happier, and better able to manage preexisting health conditions. At a time when we are faced with unprecedented levels of preventable lifestyle diseases and tragic levels of health inequality, the NHS and healthcare systems around the world are searching for low-cost ways to empower people towards better self care. Increasingly, they are looking towards yoga. In the UK, The NICE guidelines already recommend yoga for lower back pain, the multi-million pound Staff Wellbeing Scheme includes yoga, and yoga is now offered through social prescribing. We are at the vanguard, and at YIHA2019 we will map how yoga can become an integral part of the NHS.

The aim of YIHA2019 is to discuss how we can collaboratively incorporate yoga into healthcare, share success stories, raise the profile of yoga's role in healthcare, and effectively move towards a future where yoga is offered on prescription.

Together we will explore how and why yoga improves health, supports self-reliance, and addresses health inequality. We will review the evidence from cutting-edge research that supports yoga’s efficacy in healthcare, we will present the economic case for yoga, and discuss how it can help create a sustainable healthcare system.

Whether you are a health professional or a yoga professional, we will impart effective ways to bring yoga into health services, the recommended practice and precautions for different patient groups as defined by collection of experts, and how yoga can help you and your colleagues maintain wellbeing.

Please note we do not issue refunds, and tickets are non-transferable.
