Chelmsford Jewish Community invites you to join a shared moment of reflection in a world scarred by genocide.

About this event

On 27th April 7pm, we commemorate Yom HaShoah, the date of Holocaust Memorial in Israel. My community will bring the City together, at the Chelmsford Civic Centre.

Working alongside young people in Chelmsford we’re creating space to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed in genocides that have followed all over the world and which, unfortunately, we still see today.

This year’s commemoration will provide an opportunity to hear first-hand testimony from Holocaust survivors, to listen to a live musical performance, poetry and spoken word by young local performers, and presentations on why genocide must continue to be resisted every day.

The Holocaust threatened the fabric of civilisation, in a world that often feels fragile and vulnerable, and we cannot be complacent. Even in the UK, prejudice and the language of hatred must be challenged by us all.

Stan Keller

Chairman of Chelmsford Jewish Community

In the lead up, we particularly want to hear from young people keen to help plan, participate, perform, or most importantly attend. It is imperative that the younger generation understands what occurred so that they are in a position to combat discrimination and prejudice in all its forms.

If you are a teacher, youth worker or parent who would like to talk to us about young people you know being involved please email me on stan@graphic-impressions.co.uk
