Yorgos Sicilianos: A Life in Music - On the 20th anniversary of his passing

This unique event is being held under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece and the Lykion ton Hellinidon, marking the twentieth anniversary of the passing of Yorgos Sicilianos (1920–2005), one of Greece’s foremost distinguished modernist composers. Combining discussion and live performance, the event offers a rare opportunity to encounter Sicilianos’s music in depth, culminating in a concert of three of his string quartets — No. 1 Op. 8, No. 2 Op. 13, and No. 3 Op. 15 (laureate of the Liège International String Quartet Competition, 1962) — performed by Georgios Demertzis (violin, founder of the New Hellenic Quartet), Anastasios Mavroudis (violin), Wanshu Qiu (viola), and Özgür Kaya (cello).
