Event description
York Learning's Staff Conference will focus on Dyslexia in Everyday Life and Anxiety around Learning.

About this event

Our next conference will take place on Monday 6th December (1-3pm) and be repeated on Tuesday 7th December (7-9pm). The workshops will be valuable for both tutors and the wider staff team, so everyone is welcome.

The two workshops are as follows:

Dyslexia in Everyday Life

A one hour workshop looking at how dyslexia impacts on everyday life, from getting ready to leave the house to attending meetings. We have a guest speaker who will be sharing their experiences of living with dyslexia; this will provide an opportunity for you to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the condition.

Anxiety Around Learning

How do we influence our learners’ attitude to learning through the language that we use? How can we help learners overcome their anxiety and adopt a more positive approach to subjects that they may find challenging?

You will need to bring a packet of M&Ms or similar sweets .

The workshops will take place on Zoom. We would like all contracted and sessional tutors to attend this opportunity for Continuous Professional Development. Contracted tutors will be expected to attend within their contracted hours. Sessional tutors can claim 2 additional hours at non-teaching rate. Invoicing tutors are welcome to attend but this will be in their own time.

The timetable for each day is as follows:

Monday 6th December

  • 1pm-2pm - Anxiety Around Learning
  • 2pm - 3pm - Dyslexia in Everyday Life

Tuesday 7th December

  • 7pm-8pm - Dyslexia in Everyday Life
  • 8pm-9pm - Anxiety Around Learning
