About this event

The perfect opportunity for Local Action Groups from Yorkshire to come together for a day of sharing, connecting, plotting and planning.

Our Summer Action Gathering is a friendly, inclusive event for everyone in Friends of the Earth Local Action Groups, the Young Friends of the Earth network and wider environmental justice activists.

If you are taking action for climate justice, we want you to be there. If you are committed to building a more diverse, more powerful climate justice movement, we need you. And if you need help to get started, we’ll be there to help.

Plot and plan a summer of action across your region
Connect with others from across Yorkshire striving for ambition on tackling cliamte change, nature loss and social injustice.

On the Day you will:

Find out more about Friends of the Earth's Big Climate Plan and Planet over Profit campaigns and how you can take action on these vital campaigns.

You will also find out and gain inspiration about local campaigns being run across Yorkshire from the battles against fossil fuel exploration and big biomass burning at Drax to how we can persuade our Mayors to show ambition.

You will have the opportunity to learn new skills and share your experiences as a climate and nature campaigner in workshops designed to make the application of those skills as straightforward as possible.

You will also hear from Friends of the Earth's leadership on our ambitions and vision for the future.

10.30 Welcome to the event and the latest news from Friends of the Earth

11.00 Campaign workshops - Get the lowdown on Friends of the Earth's Big Climate Plan and Planet over Profit campaigns

12.15 Lunch (provided by Timebank Kitchen)

13.15 Local Action Group showcase. Be inspired by the amazing activities of local groups across Yorkshire

14.00 Earthmovers Awards - Celebrate the key achievements of our grassroots network during 2024/5

14.20 Break for tea and coffee

14.30 Skills sessions. Develop and share your skills in one of three breakout sessions:

Inclusive faciliation - how to make your group a welcoming space for a diverse range of people.
How you can build creativity, artistry and fun into your campaigns - with local artist and activist, Lauren Sanders
How to influence your local decision-maker through lobbying and partnership building

15.30 Photo action - join us to take action in a creative photo opportunity

15.45 The Fish Trail - a guided walk through Hull city centre exploring its history as a maritime and fisihing port and its transformation into a critical part of the UK's green energy future.

16.45 Wrap up and farewell

17.00 Social event - Continue building connections with a social gathering in an inclusive venue before heading off home with a new sense of inspiration and hope!

Accessibility:

We are committed to creating events that are inclusive. Our venue is accessible but if you have specific accessibility requirements please include this on your booking form so we can make the adjustments that you need.

Getting there:

We encourage you to come by public transport if at all possible. The venue is five minutes walk from Hull Paragon Railway station.

Ticket information

Tickets are free: But please bear in mind mind we plan the event and order refreshments based on the registrations, and we have limited tickets. Please only book a ticket if you intend to come! And let us know if your plans change.

Young people: Under 16s need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian, or responsible adult (with parental consent). 16 and 17 year olds can attend unaccompanied (with parental consent required in advance). Unfortunately, we are not able to offer childcare provision.

Cancellations: If you book a ticket, but subsequently find you can't attend, please cancel your ticket. This helps us know who is attending, plan the event, and offer your place to someone else.

Bursary offer: If travel costs are a barrier to attending, please get in touch at [email address]. We don't have a travel budget to offer widely, but we can help where travel costs would prevent you joining us.
