Event description
It is no exaggeration to say that the beauty industry is killing young girls all over the world.

About this event

When we try to look like something we literally cannot look like, we're destined to fail. Failure brings with it depression, doubt, feeling unhappy with your own skin. At its worst, it causes mental health disorders, it causes suicide. suicides amongst young girls under 25 was so stark that, despite the rate of male suicides falling across the board, the overall rate went up.

According to the Journal of Adolescent Health, teenagers that perceive themselves as either too fat or too thin are more than twice as likely to consider killing themselves... Regardless of their actual size. The belief that we aren't beautiful is fatal.

My name is Vivian Moyo the founder of the You Are Beautiful Project. The aim of the project is to raise awareness of distorted beauty images in the media for young women.

Our campaign challenges the unrealistic portrayal of beauty standards in the media. We increase self- esteem and build confidence in young girls between the ages of 10 - 15 year old.

It is no exaggeration to say that the beauty industry is killing young girls all over the world. To a lot of people, it might seem silly, that people die because they don't feel beautiful, but it's not. It's incredibly real, and it happens every day.

Young women need to know that they don't need to feel rubbish about themselves, that crazy diets aren't going to make them look like photoshopped women, and above all, they need to know that they are beautiful, just the way they are. If there's anyone out there who still doesn't think that unrealistic beauty standards can affect young girls' self esteem...

The documentary looks at false advertising, body image and how the media has changed the context of beauty.

We are going to have a panel discussion from experts such as youth councillors, recovering specialists, social workers and young people who have experienced bullying based on the way they look .

Vivian's Final Bio

Meet our speaker and founder of the You Are Beautiful Project Limited. The aim of the campaign challenges the unrealistic portrayal of beauty standards in the media. We increase self- esteem and build confidence in young girls between the ages of 10 - 15 year old.

When Vivian was a young girl she was rejected by her father and my mum died when she was 3 years old. She moved to the UK to live with her uncle when she was 11 years old. She felt unloved and rejected and left home when she was 17 years old. She ended up self distracting by sleeping with a lot of guys and unfortunately by the time she was 24 years old she had lost two children.

She felt into depression and I was suicidal. She almost gave up life completely. Her pain inspired her to work with young girls suffering from depression and body image.

You are invited to join us on the 15th of May for the You Are Beautiful Documentary from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.

The documentary looks at false advertising, mental health and photoshop in a refreshing light.

1.6 million people in the UK are estimated to be affected by eating disorders, according to the Joint Commission Panel for Mental Health. Around 8% of women have bulimia at some point in their lives. Every year, 2% of all women will experience anorexia, with the condition lasting for an average of around 6 years.

Meet our speaker for our panellist of the You Are Beautiful documentary. Olivia Lynn (15years old) and I am from Luton Bedfordshire. Ever since I could talk I was singing. Singing has always been my passion and has got me through some very tough times... Unfortunately I got bullied so terribly I was in and out of school constantly due to it which affected my attendance.

I endured not only physiological bullying such as name calling, whispering and nudging into me but also physical too.

Not knowing who she could trust out of her 'friends' I ended up poorly My mum took me to the doctors and I was referred to hospital. I did not want to live I couldn't understand why this was happening.

Then lockdown happened at first it was perfect as I always felt safest at home until My social media took off with that came so much love but also so much hate and unfortunately I could only seem to focus on the hate.

Why would strangers be so unkind? Calling me ugly? Saying I can't sing? Hate pages made about me too. I unfortunately started to spiral down again into a dark place but thanks to my love of singing and music as cliché as it sounds I had a purpose .

focusing on this love and with more Counselling and support from family and releasing my first single STRONG with my group Generation Z I started to get better again! I am now being home educated and with the help of tutors i am doing well... I am thankful for any opportunity to help raise awareness of bullying, Counselling and how to help get through such a tough time... I look forward to being apart of the I AM ENOUGH conference x

As a Coach, I work alongside my clients to help them identify and implement specific changes they want for their lives. I also use coaching in my social work practice, supporting clients in their journey of recovery, reflection, and continual movement towards achieving a healthier, more empowered and purposeful life.

Workshops, Training & Public Speaking

As a Soul Empowered Life Coach, I teach clients about the power of connecting with their inner ‘knowing’ (e.g. intuition or inner voice) to create meaningful relationships with their outer world. I believe my personal experience of childhood illness and family disruption has enabled me to build empathic and empowering relationships with clients who want more freedom, control and choice over their lives.

Coaching can also be done successfully with small or larger groups. My company Xsel Investments Ltd provides Workshops, Training and Public Speaking events to businesses, organisations and individuals to promote mental, emotional and physical wellbeing in the workplace. I believe that through the coaching process, clients can learn new ways of thinking and communicating, that increases their self-confidence and outcomes for their professional and personal life.

My programme ‘Speaking With Soul’ is for business owners, coaches and change-makers who want to attract clients effortlessly to their service or product. I believe when you are speaking with soul you bring your whole self to the stage; you connect with your audience in a way that is meaningful, ‘non-salesy’ and aligned with your values and who you are. When this happens you add value and impact to the individuals, services and businesses you want to serve.

Author

I love writing and my first bookThe A-Z of Stress Solutions' (2014) offers effective and practical strategies to manage stress and take care of our health and wellbeing. My Soul Purpose (2019) is a collection of my poems about life, living and continuous learning on the journey to find our true selves. I have also co-authored two further books, Life Inna Lockdown (2020) with 22 ordinary women telling our extraordinary stories of courage and resilience during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Emergence’ (2020) was written with some wonderful women using poetry to share our stories of trauma and survival. I believe that poetry can inspire, encourage and motivate us to regain control and change our own lives and the lives of those around us.

My style is collaborative and challenging and respects the innate creativity and resourcefulnesswe all possess. I am committed to helping clients become the best version of themselves. My coaching approach is based on the belief that the client is the expert in their own life; by aligning their desires with their values, they can achieve the freedom, satisfaction and happiness they want.
