Description
If your child lashes out and hurts you during meltdowns, it's absolutely heartbreaking, and can leave parents feeling broken, crushed and in total despair. Yet however hard we're finding it, our child is going through an even tougher time, and they need us to be right at the top of our game at the very time we often feel lost and bewildered.
This workshop is exploring this disconnect, and it will give you plenty of time to talk to others in exactly the same situation, reflect on how it feels, develop a toolbox of new approaches to try at home with your child, and learn about self-care, and how to build up your own emotional resilience and mental strength.
This 3-hour Workshop has been especially designed for parents who are living with the unpredictability and fear of violent and challenging behaviour (VCB) from a child who also has a neurodevelopmental diagnosis such as a Learning Disability, ADHD, Autism or PDA. Professionals who work with these families are also welcome.
Led by Yvonne Newbold and Malcolm Cooper, the Workshop, will explore the likely reasons behind a child’s VCB and what you can do to address them, as well as looking at ways to protect your own mental-wellbeing and reducing the stress, overwhelm and despair that becomes an inevitable part of parenting a child with VCB.
During this Workshop you will -
- Gain a greater understanding of why these behaviours happen
- Develop the skills to begin to recognise the underlying causes
- Explore approaches and strategies that can make a significant difference
- Meet and talk to other parents who are in the same situation
- Learn why self-care is an essential element of supporting your child
- Understand more about the mind/body link, and how stress affects our immunity
- Be able to find time to recharge and relax every day
- Build your emotional resilience, and learn how to be mentally stronger
- Experience a blissful relaxation session as part of the Workshop
- Leave with a toolbox of strategies, approaches and ideas that can help
- Have more confidence to start to get your family back on track
