About this event
We’re hosting the second part of our Unravelled series at Somerset House for their 25th Anniversary Weekender, Step Inside 25. Coinciding with Wool Month, the second Unravelled is themed Wool.
Continuing on from Part 1, which explored natural dyes; Part 2 will uncover the realities of working with local and natural materials found on our doorsteps. Across the 13th and 14th September, we’ll host hands-on workshops and talks, exposing wool at its raw form; whilst understanding processing the material in the UK and celebrating this fibres role in fashion and design.
workshops
On Saturday, learn how you can use needle felting as a way to 'paint with wool' with Zoë Daley. Needle felt into swatches of wool which can be patched onto a garment or used as stand alone art pieces. Come back on Sunday to take part in a wet felting workshop; and listen to a panel discussion on the realities of designing with local wool supplies.
talks
Join us for a lunchtime chat on Sunday afternoon; with a panel discussion about the realities of designing with wool - from understanding the material to consumer perceptions and what a local supply chain could look like. Alongside farmer, Katie Allen; educator and knitwear technicaian Sean-Henry; Finnish designer Ervin Latimer; and designer Clara Pinto.
installations
Our installation, Farm Trips, will be on display all weekend, including samples made from wool and three short films that take you behind the scenes of our visits to some of the UKs regenerative farms that specialise in fibre - including alpaca wool and sheep wool. The installation celebrates being labelled one of Somerset House's Talent 25 awardees.
