Event description

Description

This is an event for children and young people of all ages. Come along to learn about how to use arts activities to do social science action research. Young people, children and any adults accompanying them are invited to wander through the City, visiting venues where they can see and hear stories and art that have been created by previous research projects. The arts and action activities you visit will help you think about your own experiences and connections to places in this city and the world. Together we will create a digital display of our connections to the city, each other, and the world.

The event is co-organised by young people who are part of the young researcher group UCan. This youth-led group initiates and conducts research to challenge discrimination. The event will showcase these projects:

  • www.Stories2Connect.org (AHRC funded) - telling stories of how young people have overcome challenges
  • J-UK (Daiwa Foundation funded) - a collaboration between disabled young people in Lancashire and Japan
  • The Magic Six from www.peeryouth.eu (EU funded) - an action research with Roma young people in 9 countries
  • The Visual Matrix Method - a way of thinking about images to make connections between people and place
  • A co-created map and walking tour of Preston

Bby taking part in the event, children and young people will gain experience of research.

The event will take place through interactive installations and workshops in community venues in the centre of Preston. Full details will be available on the day from the Harris museum.
