About this event
An afternoon of inclusive and accessible fun cycling on East Cork’s newest public amenity in the company of friends and families, in aid of the RNLI - Cycling to Save Lives at Sea.
Welcoming cyclists of all ages and abilities, from beginners to seasoned cyclists, to enjoy a fun ride of their chosen distance on the safe and scenic Midleton-Youghal (MY) Greenway.
THIS IS NOT A RACE.
The Greenway:
The 23km long Greenway is an off-road walking and cycling route through the heart of East Cork, which connects the towns and villages of Youghal, Killeagh, Mogeely and Midleton.
It is an important amenity for the local community, providing a safe, accessible, and attractive route on an easy gradient which is suitable for use by people of all ages and abilities.
It supports active travel and contributes to health promotion, well-being, and overall quality of life.
Car parking and access to the Greenway is available at Midleton, Mogeely, Killeagh and via the MacCurtainstown Car Park in Youghal (Event HQ).

Need a bike for the day?
You can pre-book your bike and safety gear from the local providers.
Cork Bike Hire in Youghal and Midleton or Youghal Bike Rental nearby.
-Use the code 'Lifeboat50' at checkout to avail of a special discounted hire from both-
(both offer E-bikes, tandems, kiddie trailers, side-cars and mobility cycles)
Parking:
Car parking and access to the Greenway is available at Midleton, Mogeely, Killeagh and via the MacCurtainstown Car Park in Youghal (Event HQ). Further parking is available at the nearby beach car parks at Front Strand, Claycastle and in Youghal Town centre aslo.
Distances:
You can choose to ride any distance, and even change your mind on the day. The map above is a good guide but don't set the bar too high for your group's ability/fitness. Remember this is all about fun and just getting active for a worthy cause!
As a rule of thumb, slower or less experienced riders would cover around 12km/h. More experienced riders could manage around 20km/h and expert cyclists might see 30kph.
If you're looking to conquer the entire 46km to Midleton and back that's GREAT but we would urge you to start in the earlier hours of the afternoon so you can be back safely by 7pm.
Frequently asked questions
No Problem! Local bike hire businesses who rent bikes on the Greenway are supporting us and can assist you in hiring the bike you need, with safety equipment. Give 'Cork Bike Hire' or 'Youghal Bike Rental' a google and they'll get you sorted. Use discount code 'Lifeboat50' at checkout to avail.
Minors MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult so it's best if they come as part of a family group, school, club, etc. (The greenway remains open to the public throughout and we have no control over who uses it outside of our participant groups)
Simply register as an individual or a family and then drop us an email with the names of your group members, your preferred start time and chosen distance. We'll reply later with confirmation and you're good to go.
By signing up for this event you automatically opt-in to photography on the day. If you prefer to NOT have photos of you published later please inform us at check-in and we will ensure that any photos are deleted.
We will have safety marshals patrolling the route with some spare tubes, pumps, tools, etc. If the worst does happen, we have broom-wagons at every road crossing to scoop you up and return you to the finish line.
We will have medical teams at the Event HQ with additional mobile first aiders along the route. You will be given an event specific emergency number to call in the event of mechanical breakdown or medical incident on the day, just call the number and sit tight - help is on its way.
