Event description

Description

Young Muslim Change-Makers offers an exploration of the Muslim charity sector, from multi-million pound NGOs to discrete grassroots charities who are quietly giving rise to the next generation of Muslim entrepreneurs, scholars, politicians and other influencers.

Authored by Dr. William Barylo – PhD in Sociology, ethnographic photographer and film-maker – the book covers seven years of research in grassroots Muslim charities in France, Poland and the UK. The book posits that European Muslims are participating citizens and answers the question: how do young Muslims volunteers reshape society at a local level?

The event will feature reviews by Professor Werner Menski (SOAS, University of London), Dr. Fauzia Ahmad (Goldsmiths), and will be chaired by Dr. Abdullah Faliq (London Metropolitan University).

Entry is free. Everyone welcome.

The event will be held in room 116, Main Building of SOAS, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Refreshments included.

All participants will be offered a 20% discount on the book through the Routledge website: https://www.routledge.com/Young-Muslim-Change-Makers-Grassroots-Charities-Rethinking-Modern-Societies/Barylo/p/book/9781138054158
