Description

Young Placechangers training session and funding opportunity

Venue: Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, 13 Whitevale Street, Glasgow, G31 1QW

Date: 20 January 2018

Time: 11am – 4pm

There will also be two follow up evening sessions (time/place to be confirmed)

What?

We are looking for a team of youth workers and youth group members who want to make a positive change in their local environment to join our team of young placechangers.

Young Placechangers lead community placemaking projects in their local communities. Placemaking is about bringing people together to find ways of making public spaces useful and great. It involves looking at, listening to and asking questions of the people in a space to discover their needs and hopes. This information is brought together to create a common vision and action plan – followed swiftly by practical action to deliver ‘quick-win’ changes on the ground.

Why?

greenspace scotland and Youth Scotland have been developing a national programme for young placechangers for a while and we now need fresh input from young people and youth workers to take the programme to the next level.

What’s in if or us?

You will be given training and tools making you able to lead on a placemaking project where you live.

If you complete the training, you will be given the opportunity to apply for project funding for your local place.

What would a typical placemaking project look like?

Here’s some examples of the actions that have resulted from other placemaking projects:

short term actions: community litter picks and rubbish clearance; wildflower and bulb planting; cleaning, painting and decoration of spaces; paths and access works; site resurfacing; seating installation; garden creation; play area creation; habitat management; facility upgrades; a range of community events and activities; signage installation; the formation of community greenspace action groups

longer term actions: new public spaces have been designed and created; new woodland and habitats established; new path networks constructed; spaces renamed and re-launched; food growing facilities established; community activity and event programmes developed and expanded; and, maintenance and management regimes introduced to spaces

Transport Costs can be supported. If you would like to chat about the programme, if you have any questions please contact Paul McIlvenny on either 0131 554 2561 or 07872 068519
